Every year we have a huge range of new retail products available in our stores and online. All of these products are selected by a dedicated team of buyers who spend hours testing the gear and curating a range that we feel best suits the conditions of Japan and our customers. Below are some top winter picks for 2023 that our buy team is excited about.
Ross
Head Buyer: Accessories
This monumental category covers everything from winter footwear to goggles and helmets.
This year’s pick would be the Sorel Explorer WP Boot: “Fashion and function rolled into one! I’ve been looking for a waterproof, warm, anti-slip winter boot that doesn’t look like one. The Explorer WP is perfect for getting around town in the snow and rain, comfortable for wearing all day at work, and fits right in when going out for drinks.”
The bonus pick is not strictly in his category but a product he has had his eye on and is excited to put through the paces this season; the ThirtyTwo Lashed Double Boa Bradshaw Snowboard Boot: “An upgrade to the Bradshaw Lashed lace-up boots I’ve had for the past three seasons – I’m excited to finally be jumping on the Boa bandwagon and investing in the new Boa Bradshaw boot. Pretty stoked not to have to deal with wet laces and be saving time in the mornings to get on the hill with ease. Also, they look awesome!”
Grover
Head Buyer: Snowboards
With years of experience under his belt, Grover knows what works. His pick for this winter is the Capita Black Snowboard of Death: “A Capita classic that is well suited to the deep snow conditions of Japan.”
For the lady shredders out there Grover’s pick would be the Ride Psychocandy snowboard: “A women’s version of the Warpig – this high-end directional freeride board is designed to be ridden 3-6 cm shorter than your normal snowboard.”
Sean
Buyer: Rentals
Often found getting pitted in the Niseko backcountry Sean loves getting after it. This season he is most excited about the Armada Whitewalker 116: “A stiff, lightweight twin shape pow ski from the lord Sammy Carlson.”
Asami
Buyer: Outerwear
A Niseko veteran always clocking over 100 days a season, Asami puts an incredible amount of hours into her gear. This Winter the Arc’teryx Sentinel Bib is rocking her world: “The design has significantly changed this year and a large pocket on the chest area has been created to provide even more convenient storage space”
Tom
Head Buyer: Ski & Snowboard
Osprey Solden 32: “A good backpack is essential when venturing off the groomers. The Solden 32 is a really good lightweight option that has all the pockets needed for safety gear and the necessities.”
WNDR Alpine Intention 108: “This ski brand from Utah is using lots of new technology in their skis and their environmentally friendly approach is refreshing to see. The slimmed down 108 camber version will be perfect for resort and touring days around the Niseko area”
